剪纸 [jĭan zhĭ] Paper Cutting


剪纸 [jĭan zhĭ] (paper cutting) is the art of cutting paper designs and it has a very long history in China. 剪纸 [jĭan zhĭ] has been emerged in China since about the sixth century A. D. and nowadays it still remains popular in China, especially during special events, such as weddings or traditional Chinese New Year Festival.

People use various patterns of剪纸 [jĭan zhĭ] to decorate windows, doors, walls, lamps, or mirrors and剪纸 [jĭan zhĭ] can also be given as presents as well. It is a way for people to express their wishes of health, luck and prosperity.
There are a lot of different patterns and normally include good meaning characters and Chinese zodiac animals. Moreover, 红色[hóng sè] (red color) is the most commonly used color. Nowadays, 剪纸 [jĭan zhĭ] art has been evolved in many other countries to adopt to different cultural styles.
